The Tamil Nadu harvest festival, Pongal, is observed on the first
day of the Thai calendar (Tamil month).
A celebration where people give thanks to God for all of his mercies
and blessings and anticipate a prosperous new year. It
usually occurs on January 14 or 15 according to the English calendar.
Pongal
was observed at SMKC on January 13th, 2023.For the first hour of class,
students were expected to arrive by
9:15 a.m. To honor the occasion, the students came dressed in traditional dhotis and sarees. The
celebration started around 9:30 a.m. Under the guidance of the college faculty, the campus community came
together to celebrate Pongal with their different departments. The atmosphere was one of celebration, music,
dance, and wide smiles on everyone's faces.
The
college's events were created in a way that would elicit and highlight the
students' hidden skills. Numerous
activities, such as the making of Pongal, Mehandi, a Fashion show, Rangoli, Uriadithal, and Rope pulling,
illustrated the importance of the
harvest celebration. Students from
our college actively took part in the essay writing, slogan writing, and speech competitions that the language department
held. The
contribution by the students towards the programme was immense. All the winners were awarded with certificates and trophies.
The pongal festival celebration in our college, is a true manifestation of our rich culture and traditions. We can be seen at its vibrant best.
